I have the most adorable Valentine’s day craft for you today! This simple DIY Valentines Day Wooden craft uses inexpensive materials. And best of all? It features Gnomes!
I am loving all the new Valentine’s day decor I’ve seen at stores this year. This is the first year I have made any Valentine crafts or diys. And since I love gnomes, I knew I had to make something with gnomes for Valentine’s day!
I love using any type of wood and wood pieces in my crafts and diys. And this valentines day wooden craft uses a wooden board frame, some wood beads and some cut down wood slices. Add in some glitter hearts and other embellishments to really make it your own.
There is just something about heart shape anything that puts you in a good mood. And of course you can make this to suite your own personal taste and to match your home decor.

What you need to make this fun diy valentine’s day craft:
- a wooden panel or some type of craft wood
- wooden beads
- window clings
- scrap wood pieces
- twine
- foam glitter hearts
- hot glue or mod podge
- paint
- other embellishments (such as wooden heart art pieces, vinyl lettering or quotes. Whatever you like or already have in your craft supplies.)
Some helpful equipment to have:
- fishing wire
- drill with drill bit
Tutorial for DIY Valentine Day Wooden craft idea:
First, I painted the wooden panel I was using with some white spray paint. Then I took the wooden beads and painted them too. For the beads, I used white, ballet slipper pink, mambo pink, and cherry red. Then I took some wood pieces I had and cut the bottom half off. Leaving just a little piece of wood. I painted that in the ballet slipper pink.
Helpful hint to spray paint wooden beads:
- Use a paper bowl and and string the beads on a long toothpick. Set the toothpick with the beads across the top of the bowl. Then, just spin the toothpick around so you can spray paint all the sides of the beads. Then you can let them sit there while they dry. That way if you oversprayed (I’m so guilty of this sometimes!) the excess will drip off into the bowl.
While waiting for the paint to dry, I decided where I wanted my beads to hang down and cut my piece of twine. Make sure you leave enough excess to tie in the back. I then used my drill to make a hole in the wooden panel. If any of your scrap wood pieces, wood slice, or other embellishments need holes to hang off the twine, go ahead and cut those now, too.
Once your paint is dry, take your twine and pull it through one of the holes in the frame.
Helpful hint to pull the twine through the holes on the frame:
- Take a piece of fishing line and loop it around the twine. Then pull the fishing line through the hole along with the twine. See the photo below. Tie that end on the back and then begin adding your beads.
I did two white beads, then a pink, dark pink then red and kept repeating that pattern.
Of course this is one of your diy projects, so use whatever pattern or order you want.
Then using the fishing line trick again, pull the twine through the other whole to the back. Check your beads are hanging where you want them and tie accordingly. Then use the twine and decide where you’re going to hang your other embellishments. I used these wood pieces and planned on writing XO or some other sweet message on them. In the end I decided to just glue the red foam hearts on them. For the center, I decided on the wooden love sign. Take a shorter piece of twine, and put it through the whole on the wood. After that, just place it where you want it on the bead twine and tie it. You can hide the little knot behind your embellishment.
Lastly, you just need to use some mod podge to glue the window clings where you want them and add a heartfelt message or other wood crafts supplies you may have. I added the foam hearts to all four corners. I think this DIY Valentine Wooden Craft Idea turned out pretty adorable.
I do wish I would’ve painted the outer frame part pink. That really would have made it pop. But I do love how it turned out this way too!
Give as a homemade gift or use to decorate your own home. You could hang it on a wall, put it on a shelf or even your fireplace mantel.
This was such an easy Valentine’s day craft to make and I think it will look great in my living room.
