When deco mesh wreaths became all the rage, I went crazy and made a holiday wreath for every holiday I could think of. Except Valentine’s day. I never made a Valentine’s wreath and I’m not sure why. I made up for it with this cute wreath now. This wreath was so easy to make and I bought all the supplies, except the wreath form, at the dollar store.
This was my first time using a flat, cardboard wreath form and it worked out great for this Valentines Wreath DIY.
I can see using these forms for Christmas decorations and I have so many other diy wreaths ideas!
Here are the supplies needed to make this Valentines Wreath. I didn’t end up using everything pictured here. I only used three of the ribbons for my bow and I only used the pink glitter foam hearts.

I got the wreath form from Amazon, it came in a four pack with two different sizes. You can find the ones I purchased here. And I found this pretty Valentine heart garland at the Dollar tree, along with the glitter foam hearts and the ribbon.
The best part is that this wreath takes about five minutes to make. And you do not have to be an experienced crafter to make it that quick! I just love the heart shapes and the different shades of red and pink you get in the garland.
Now for this easy Valentine Wreath Tutorial
The first step is to take the garland and wrap it around the wreath form.
Just keep wrapping it around from the front to the back of the wreath. One piece of garland went a little more than halfway around the form.
Then add the second one and just kind of scrunch them together. Make sure there are no empty spaces on the form.
Then you just tuck the end in. Or you could use your hot glue gun and dab it onto the form to keep the end down. The back of the Valentine wreath looks the same as the front until you add your embellishments.
Next, I took the foam hearts and used a drop of hot glue to secure them around the wreath. I ended up not using the red glitter foam hearts since the red is more prominent on the garland already.
And the final step is just making a bow and using hot glue, floral wire, or a pipe cleaner to attach it to the wreath. And you’re done.
Isn’t this a beautiful wreath? This is actually the first of what will become my many Valentine’s day decorations.
Some helpful hints to make your own diy Valentine wreaths:
- You don’t have to use a cardboard wreath form. You can use any type of wreath form. You could use a grapevine wreath form, a foam wreath form or even a heart-shaped wire wreath form. For that matter you could use a regular wire wreath frame too. If you plan on hanging this wreath on your front door, don’t use the cardboard wreath form. I’m not sure that the cardboard will hold up that well in the weather like traditional wreaths do.
- Customize your wreath! You could add so many different embellishments to make your own Valentine’s day wreaths. Add some faux flowers, such as roses. Or use other floral picks or wreath picks. Use different garland with different colors. Get some pink and red felt and cut out your own hearts to glue them on.
- You do not have to buy your supplies at the Dollar Tree. Amazon, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Craft outlet online, even Wal-mart has really cute Valentine crafts items. Use what you like!
Now that I have made deco mesh wreaths and garland wreaths, I want to tackle burlap wreaths.
